the Blue Nile – Tinseltown in the Rain

Hard to imagine how such a banal video could be made for a song so beautiful. But then the Blue Nile, famed for making an album once every 5 years or so, weren’t exactly your average MTV product of the 1980s. ‘A walk Across the Rooftops’ is an album sometimes exulted to the heights of 1980s pop perfection; personally I find it rather dull. But this song  is just perfect in every way. If there is a God, he must be in some way responsible for those synth strings. And Paul Buchanan’s voice is unsurpassed. the live version below, which isn’t that distinguishable from the studio version, shows what an accomplished live outfit they were.
